Digital media creates many new opportunities to introduce more open and dynamic processes of engagement that better represents the structure and expectations of our modern society. This is not a technological argument but requires a fundamental change in the underlying processes and actions aimed at fixing clear objectives, careful planning, appropriate marketing and reflexive strategies for responding, managing and evaluating. New digital engagement will define new public spaces need to be designed to include points for democratic participation within them. Parks, schools, libraries; public video displays link to real-time consultations and we can harness the ever more powerful location aware devices of people nearby. It will create a two-way, conversational listening between P.A. and citizens.
